Who is that Chess Hoodlum?Hello everyone this is Tait, guest blogging for Susan. I got here last night at 11PM. My plane flight had a very airsick young lady on it, what a blast! The kids have all finished the first of three rounds today, and they are holding up well. The team has 8 points. Ben Elstner is undefeated, Liam and Erik are both 2 and 1. This hotel is beautiful, and everything is right here. There is a lot of downtime at chess tournaments and Nationals is the worst. Todays rounds are at 9AM, 2PM and 7PM. The biggest challenge is keeping the boys motivated throughout a 15 hour day during which they have to play 6 hours of hardcore chess. We began the day with an elevator ride to the lobby during which we yelled everytime the doors opened, this garnered us some strange looks, but it amused us.Downtime at Nationals

Hi Everyone.
Comment by Joshua April 4, 2009 @ 7:18 pmI just checked the pairings for the fourth round and my bet is that this will be the best one yet. Should get at least four points out of this one. Go Team Go!!!

To the Chess Team…
Comment by Joshua April 5, 2009 @ 12:33 amYou guys are awesome and doing a great job. I have been cheering you on and I hope you heard me all the way down in Tennessee. LOVED the pictures. Vincent makes a great spy in the hat and scarf (sort of scary though), and Christine really put on a fashion show. Make sure she gives Evan back his lucky hat (ha ha). Hope he keeps practicing his scary stares. Can’t believe you had 80 degree weather-it was 66 degrees here and windy, but we went on a long bike ride and it was great fun. By now you are in your fifth and last round for the day. Have lots of fun.

Thanks for letting us see what amazing things the team is accomplishing! Kristopher and Madeleine Jenner wish their Ben classmates lots of success!

Comment by Joshua April 5, 2009 @ 7:31 pmJust didn’t want you to think that I had forgotten about you. I am still cheering for you and you should be able to hear me all the way down to Nashville. Woohoo! St. Anne’s chess team!! I know you are probably still in your seventh round by now or just getting out. Hope everything is going well and that you are enjoying Tennessee. Maybe Billy Ray Cyrus will invite you to his place, which is 9 miles outside of Nashville. He even has a meditation tent high on a mountain top above his home. Camping anyone?? Don’t forget you also might run into Miley Cyrus. That certainly would make you popular with all the girls at school when you get back. Guess you had better focus on chess right now but hope you are having a good time, too. I am off on another bike ride. It is 68 degrees and sunny.
